Sundays In My City~ "Tourist Edition"

Today our family ventured into downtown Cowtown, to visit Calgary's most famous landmark!

DaddyO and i are not from Alberta originally, so this was a new experience for all of us. The Calgary Tower is by no means the largest tower out there (525ft); however, during the 1988 Calgary Olympic Winter Games, it became the World's Largest Olympic torch! Pretty neat, eh? The tower still becomes a 'torch' on Canada Day, or if our Flames race for the Stanley Cup! Oh well, at least we see it once per year--sorry Flames :( .
Coca-Cola machine~ Cowboy Style! *darn backlighting!*
Chuckleheads posing with the Black bear Mountie. These are the only safe times to see a black bear up close!

Checking out the glass floor. Beebo took some coaxing... Xman did not.
View of the Pengrowth Saddledome and Calgary Stampede grounds.

The beautiful Rockies! Did i mention we still had a chinook? Yep, boy did that tower sway! DaddyO did not like that. The glass floor was Xman's favourite--i am not sure what was going through his head exactly, but he had lots of fun jumping up and down on it...
then, just as there were a few ladies mildy 'scared' of the floor, he continued to slather himself all over it... just. like. he. was. flying!
Customary, cheesy group shot!
I tried to take a picture of the street...from standing...on the glass floor. Whoa~ slightly bad idea. Swaying tower + looking through camera lens + down + at own feet = Dizzy
On the way home, we decided to drive by Canada Olympic Park. It was a fairly warm day, so ALOT of people were out skiing. Plus, there was a World Cup Freestyle Skiing event on.
Chinook flappin' flags!
Ski Jump in the background...

I remember seeing that view of the mountains when I visited Calgary, very briefly years ago. And I love the shot of your little boy 'Flying'. May I write a poem about it? I'll acknowledge you, of course.

I went to Calgary when I was a wee one, and it was stunning. Your son is made of tough stuff.

Have you ever done a ski jump? I would like to say I'm brave enough, but I haven't even been on skis for four years...

Wow, he is one brave little fellow. I do not even like looking at the picture straight down, let alone being there myself.

Love your pics. And as someone who is scared of heights I can say that would be pretty darn scary...

What a fun journey through Calary you have taken me on. I am no at all sure that I could have stood on that glass and taken the shot down to the pavement. Not only would it make me dizzy, but I am totally gutless!!

Thank you and take care.
I think I would pass out up there.

I went and checked out the poem that Xman inspired. Very sweet. Be sure to save it for him with a copy of the picture.
